September, October, & November 2016 Newsletter
Dear SARA Members of TRA,
I think that all of you had notification of our recent event; The Chef’s Delight. It was held on October 4, at the MCM Elegante' Hotel and was a full house, honoring our own First Lady of Beaumont, Mayor Becky Ames.
Folks, if you missed this event it truly was a wonderful evening of fun, fellowship, mystery and a delicious 5 course dinner prepared by the Chef’s Association of Beaumont. Almost 400 family, friends & associates were on hand to honor our lovely Mayor and her devoted husband Rodney Ames. Becky’s Mother, O’Dell Castillo accompanied her and was beaming as her daughter was presented with a lovely vase of yellow roses (for our Yellow Rose of Beaumont) by the SARA Organization.
Chairman Ty Gwynn of US Foods and Co-Chair Matt Peterson of our SARA Board did a great job is pulling this 28th annual event together. (You will read more on this exciting event further in our newsletter). Their committee that met early mornings at Calder Wood consists of: Chef Charles Duit, and Monica Roberts
Coming up next will be another exciting time for the Consumer Science Program at Lamar, where two of our board members teach classes to the future Chef’s of tomorrow. Dr. Molly Dahm who heads up this program and Chef Charles Duit teaches classes to the egger students who are training in the culinary field. The Scholarship Awards Dinner will be held on January 22, 2017 and we will be honored by the new TRA President Tap Bentz of the Outback Steakhouse in College Station, Texas.

What’s Behind Door 1, 2, or 3………..???
Well, you had to be at the recent 28th Chef’s Delight to know what the title is referring too. It was an exciting time when we celebrated our 28th Annual evening with the Chef’s. Each year the entire Chef’s Association gets together to cook up a delicious 5 course meal which this year was held at the MCM Elegante'.
The food was fabulous, the auction items were fun get away places and great new things to use at home or neat places to eat around town.
You were met at the door by one of the friendly Lamar Basket Ball Team members, who were selling keys to the City. The first three tickets drawn came up and picked a large gold key, which had a number on the back. At the end of the auction, the three came up to the front.
The first key of course opened door #1 which was held by Debbi Cook which was a backyard package, Bar B Que pit and all the trimmings. However the person holding the 2nd key (sorry folks I didn’t get his name) also had a chance to use his key or take key #3 from that person, which he did... Well key #2 than opened his door and his prize was gift for his fair lady. A Spa day at the MCM Elegante' and a $100 gift card to Forever Yours Florist and other nice items. After having his key taken away, Jarrod Jenkinson (son of President Jay Jenkinson) opened his door, only to find out he had won the Beaumont Package which was a bit of everything. He had gift certificates to Restaurants all over town which frankly it was the grand prize and many delightful items.
